Women figure so prominently in demonstrations because fewer women than men work in the factories and, consequently, women can more easily go to downtown Santiago to be part of the six-thirty "concentración".

Their radiant sensuality, their occasional violence and their constant humor makes them the leaven of the demonstration that transforms these thousands, these tens of thousands of looks into the soul of a community where each face is at the same time a whole and a part of this human tide whose waves break over the city.

Through their irrepressible enthusiasm, they herald, they invent, and they drive the great universal quest: the quest for real popular power.
